Unprecedented Peace

By Dr. Pieter Siebesma and Rev. Gilbert Lammerts van Bueren

From the cover:
Isaiah 19 is a unique chapter in the Bible, announcing peace in the Middle East. The peoples of Egypt, Syria and Israel are reconciled to each other because of the intervention by the God of Israel. This chapter is expounded in the booklet, presenting some different interpretations given by Arab Christians, rabbinic Judaism and evangelical Christianity. The work and calling of the Near East Ministry is based upon Isaiah 19. Through practical service in the Middle East, the
people of the NEM bring a sign of hope in this terrorised region.

Rev. Gilbert Lammerts van Bueren has been the general director of the Near East Ministry since 1996. He studied theology at London Bible College (BA) and the Dutch Baptist Theological Seminary. Before taking up his responsibilities for NEM, he taught Greek at Tyndale Theological Seminary, was pastor of the Baptist Church in Huizen and coordinated the training department of Dorcas Aid International.

Dr Pieter A. Siebesma studied Semitic Languages (specialties: Hebrew grammar and Judaism) at the Leiden University in the Netherlands. Following his employment as staff member of the Near East Ministry, he was appointed professor of Semitic Languages and Judaism at the Evangelical Theological Faculty in Leuven, Belgium and faculty member of the Christian College Ede (CHE) in Holland. He has written numerous articles and several books.
