Israel and Ishmael - brothers in the middle of the earth
By Mrs. Iet Bleeker From the cover Since 1970 Iet Bleeker has been working with the Near East Ministry. Initially she taught domestic science to girls in the Gaza Strip. In the years between 1976 to 1979 she was caretaker of the NEM centre in Voorthuizen. After returning to Israel in 1979 she built up a substantial social work in both the Muslim and Christian quarters of the Old City of Jerusalem. Iet returned to Holland in 2004 and has an itinerant ministry in teaching on Israel and Ishmael and Gods purposes with Jerusalem. In this booklet, Iet Bleeker shares from her life experience, work and vision. She explains the fact that God has a plan for the descendants of the other son of Abraham, Ishmael. Through her life and message she shows that it is possible as a Christian to love the peoples of both sons of Abraham. She refers to a "bridge function" in this context. Her desire was, and is, to be a bridge between brothers who live in hostility to each other. The author leads the reader into the Eastern world of Ishmael. A foreigner will be confronted with major differences and many surprises in comparing this life to that in the West. She has also come to realize that many Western Christians have made mistakes in their attitudes towards Israel and Ishmael. The Lord has shown her that her attitude must be one of humility and service. Through this booklet, she shares from her wealth of practical experience and Biblical insight shehas gained through the years. Contents: 1. A hard school 2. Ishmael 3.
